LongHorn is a community-built, non-Steam distribution of Counter-Strike 1.6 that emerged from the Albanian/Kosovar CS community around 2011. Rather than being a gameplay modification, it is a precision-assembled client package — a clean Steam GCF rip combined with custom GUI, pre-bundled anti-cheat tools, multilanguage support, CSS weapon model options, zBot integration, and a custom MasterServer IP providing access to tens of thousands of non-Steam servers globally.
Over three years it evolved through four GUI versions — from the basic v1 (2011) through the polished v4 (2013) — each adding tools, fixing compatibility, expanding language support and improving the out-of-box experience for players who could not or did not use the Steam client. The build remains one of the most downloaded non-Steam CS 1.6 packages in Balkan and Eastern European markets.
First Edition
LongHorn 2011 — Editions v1 & v2
The first LongHorn release established the foundation: a clean Steam GCF rip with DDL file fixes that resolved graphical glitches plaguing earlier non-Steam builds. Bundled Steam Patch 44 (Orange Box) — a significant upgrade at the time that most players had to install manually. Included a working dedicated and listen server, full server browser tabs (Internet, Favorites, LAN), and original player/weapon/ammo models. The LH GUI v1 provided a basic but functional custom interface.

Setup
Install Guide
01
Download
Download the LongHorn setup .exe installer for your chosen edition (2011, 2012, or 2013). File size is approximately 200–350 MB depending on version.
02
Run Installer
Run the installer as Administrator on Windows. Select your language (25 available in LH 2013). Choose install directory — default is C:\Counter-Strike 1.6\.
03
Anti-Cheat Setup
UCP Anti-Cheat is pre-installed. Open the LH Tools folder and run the UCP shortcut. For sXe Injected compatibility, no extra steps needed — LH is pre-configured.
04
Optional: CSS Models
(LH 2013 only) — Open Counter-Strike Tools \ LH - Weapons Installer to switch between CSS and default weapon models. Run as Admin if prompted.
05
Optional: Language
Open Counter-Strike Tools \ CS Multilanguage to change the in-game language. If it fails to open, right-click and run as Administrator.
06
Optional: Backgrounds
(LH 2013 only) — Open Counter-Strike Tools \ 40 CS Background to switch between 40 available menu backgrounds at any resolution.
07
Start Game
Launch via the Counter-Strike 1.6 LongHorn desktop shortcut (with or without UCP). Use the Commander Menu in-game to access Settings, Server Tools, MP3 Player, and Demo Recorder.
08
Host a Server
HLDS and HLTV binaries are in Counter-Strike Tools \ HLDS & HLTV. AMX Mod X 1.8.2 addons folder is pre-structured. Run HLDS as Admin for best compatibility.
// Windows 8 / 10 / 11 Note
UCP anti-cheat may not function correctly on Windows 8 and above. The game itself runs fine — only the UCP module is affected. For modern Windows, use the No UCP shortcut or disable UCP and use an alternative anti-cheat solution. All other LongHorn features including REVOLUTION Emulator, Dproto (LH 2013), and MasterServer connectivity are unaffected.
